The inspiration for this mixtape started about a year ago, when I started to leave lyrics from The Commodores’ “Just To Be Close To You” on the artist-now-known as December’s wall: “Material things that I thought had so much valya, all girl, really didn’t have any value at all.” It started to catch on throughout the apolloKIDZ, and now we present a collection of some of the best soul classics, with some hilarious original skits that will have you crying those hysterical tears throughout.
It’s been an absolute pleasure putting together How Merlot Can You Go, Vol. 2. I just want to thank everyone involved, I hope you laughed a much as I did. Thanks Pat, for your vast knowledge of soul, we curated quite the collection for some girls in our twenties. December, you get more hilarious and more talented by the minute. To our foreign correspondent, Black Herc, thank you for staying up late with us, the mixtape wouldn’t be the same without you. And Vallywag, the skits are so hilarious. I hope the song sequence makes you laugh as much as I did when I read your scenes.
And last but not least, I want to thank my mom, for going back to your DJ days, and putting me on to some of the best soul tracks to tell the story.
