AIDS Walk New York – May 15th
apolloKIDZ will be partnering with FFC (Fellows: Focused and Committed) and the organization PLG (Pierre Lee Group) to help form “Move With a Purpose”— the largest team of young professionals of color for the AIDS Walk on Sunday, May 15, 2011.
This will be the apolloKIDZ’s first community service type of event and probably one of the most poignant.
WHY?
- More than 1 million Americans are infected with HIV and 20% of them DO NOT KNOW IT.
- African Americans make up 12% of the US population but account for 50% of HIV/AIDS diagnoses in the US.
- NYC’s AIDS case rate is almost 3 times the US average.
- If current trends persist, AIDS could claim up to 100 million lives worldwide by 2020. At this rate, AIDS will be the WORST EPIDEMIC IN US HISTORY.
