“5 shots couldn’t drop me…I took it and smiled!”
so @2Pac joined twitter today, please follow him and lets get him to 1mil asap =) @2Pac, EVERYBODY please retweet! Salute Tupac
I know what you’re thinking, but this isn’t someone just pretending to be Tupac for fun and profit. The Tupac Estate is using the @2Pac Twitter handle to promote and extend Tupac’s legacy.
Happy to finally be live on twitter promoting the legacy of realest man in music. #itsaboutdamntime
The Twitter account appears to be only one piece of a social media marketing campaign, possibly tied to the upcoming Tupac biopic. One of the first tweets from the account points to a poll at the official Tupac website and hints that they are “working on something big.” The site itself already has an active community and includes quotes from Tupac and tidbits about his life.
There is also video contest for casting the upcoming “Tupac” movie. The biopic will be produced by James G. Robinson, David Robinson and LT Hutton, and directed by Antoine Fuqua (the same director that brought you Training Day, Tears of the Sun, and Brooklyn’s Finest.) Morgan Creek and SkeeTV are holding an open casting call, giving Tupac enthusiasts a chance to actually try out for the part of Tupac. It’s easy to apply:
- Download the pre-selected scene that is to be performed.
- Perform the scene on-camera. (Only the individual submitting the scene should appear in the video).
- Perform 1 minute of your favorite Tupac song/rap on camera.
- There is a five minute time limit and 100mb limit for each submission. Only one submission per person.
Tupac may be gone, but his legacy lives on. The account only has 936 followers so far, which isn’t that surprising. I’d bet that Tupac would have been a prolific and influential Twitter user. Probably beating out Obama and Ochocinco as most influential people on Twitter.
Go follow @2Pac on Twitter to stay up-to-date on what his estate has planned. Be sure to tell your friends. Do you think tweeting in his name is appropriate?
