DJ Premier is putting together a new Gang Starr album with his late rap partner Keith “Guru†Elam.
The celebrated DJ said that he’s assembled music and Guru verses from all over the world and it enabled the posthumous album to be made.
“There are guys in Europe
who say that they have seven or eight,†he told XXLmag.com. “It’s songs he did with them and they never finished it and they said I can have them. They reached out and were like, As long as you’re doing it. You can have the vocals. They are all brand new, from like a year and a half ago. I listened to them and I’ll make them shits sound like we were together. Well, we will be together because spiritually, he’s with me for the rest of my life.â€
Preemo also said there will be a DVD with exclusive archival footage of Gang Starr, a group that got its start in the 80′s.
“I have footage from the very first show we ever performed,†he revealed. “It was Ice-T, Queen Latifah and Monie Love. She was in the bathroom nervous trying to remember her rhymes for ‘Ladies First.’ Special Ed told her it would be ok and then Monie Love killed it. It was us, Tribe, Latifah and then Ice-T. Ice T introduced me to a DAT machine. I was like, ‘Wow.’ This was 1989. I have that tape.â€
“I’m putting together a Gang Starr DVD because I’ve been filming since 1989,†he continued. “I did all the filming until 1993. Then I started bringing guys with me. I have hundreds and hundreds of tapes of me and Guru arguing in the airport. Him and Shug fighting. Guru tried fighting everyone. Now, you look at it and it’s like, Damn, I miss that.â€

Yelp may be the raconteur of restaurant recommendations and Foursquare the cardinal of check-ins, but Google has an ace up its sleeve: NFC chips. The company's embedded near-field communications chips into each and every one of these "Recommended on Google Places" window stickers, which you'll be able to trigger with a shiny new Nexus S — just hold your handset up to the black dot, and voila, your phone gets a "tag." Google's now distributing the signs on a trial basis to Portland, Oregon businesses as part of a larger Google Places kit, though it doesn't explain how (or if) they'll be able to program the chips. Either way, if you own a hot new joint in Portland, you might as well give it a spin. Find the sign-up form at our more coverage link, or peep a Nexus S doing its thing after the break.

According to Digitimes, Foxconn factories are currently assembling iPads 2 for shipment within the next 100 days which, by my calculations, puts the ship date at around February/March or, if WolframAlpha is to be believed, March 17, 2011.

Yo this story is crazy. Can you imagine what the world would be like if the letter got delivered?
September 1st, 1939: Poland is invaded by Germany, resulting in what many believe to be the beginning of World War II. Just over a month before this happens, Mohandas Gandhi writes the first of two letters to Adolf Hitler in an attempt to prevent the oncoming war. This particular letter never reaches Hitler due to an intervention by the British government.

Hey, you! Want more social media "buzz" in your life?
Then forget about so-called social media consultants and how-to guides. If you're looking to engage your Facebook friends, get things going on Twitter, or attract commenters on your hipster-themed Tumblr blog, stop messing around and start pissing people off. It's science!
According to a study by U.K. research group Statistical Cybermetrics, cyberspace citizens are overwhelmingly attracted to the negative. (Gasp!)
To confirm this fairly obvious fact, researchers used an algorithm called "sentiment analysis" to identify emotional content in posts left on the BBC's online discussion forums and the link-sharing website digg.com, reports New Scientist.
Pinpointing keywords, emoticons and subtle linguistic markers such as misspellings, the algorithm calculated a "happiness score" for each post. "Long conversation threads are overwhelmingly more emotionally negative than short ones, with happiness scores decreasing logarithmically with the number of messages," writes New Scientist. "What's more, long conversations almost always start with negative comments."

It’s still shady after 5PM under any name…
To the seemingly endless list of quirky New York neighborhood names – SoHo, BoCoCa, DUMBO – comes yet another: CanDo.
A city marketing group is trying to add some pep to the swath of Manhattan below Canal St. by rebranding it CanDo (pronounced “can due”), short for Canal Downtown.
“The only reason people stay here is if they have business on Wall St. or they’re looking for a cheap room for the weekend,” said Clive Burrow, chairman of the Lower Manhattan Marketing Association.
“By packaging it, by giving it the feel of a neighborhood like SoHo, then you’re giving the whole area a pizzazz.”
The idea isn’t to replace the names of the other neighborhoods below Canal St.: Tribeca, Chinatown, Battery Park and the Financial District.
Instead, Burrow’s aim is to distinguish that section of the city from what he considers uptown (above 59th St.), midtown (between 59th and 23rd Sts.) and downtown (23rd to Canal Sts.).
